A Passion Born in Montana

Jerry Inman

Jerry Inman is a Montana native from Billings. He became interested in painting the landscape of Montana as a teenager. His medium of choice is oil. He strives to capture the beauty of his state and hopes that whoever views his work will come away with an appreciation of our Montana. Jerry has been recognized for his art in prestigious shows like Arts for the Parks in Jackson, WY.

National Recognition and Artistic Excellence

It was created by the National Parks Foundation to showcase the beauty of our national parks. The show spotlights paintings from artists throughout the world. Of the more than 3000 entries, the show includes only 100 paintings chosen. In 1990 he was honored with their “Best Landscape” award for that year. He also received a purchase award from the National Parks Foundation in another one of their shows.

Exhibited Across the Nation

The Arts for the Parks exhibition travels throughout the country for one year. He also was honored by the Pastel Society of America by being included in their National Exhibition in New York City. He has also received many local honors.

Art Beyond the Canvas

Commissions That Made History

When living in Helena, he became involved in the Race to the Sky 500-mile sled dog race by creating a poster for the 1990 race that was featured on the Today Show on NBC. The poster was produced to raise money to support the race and sold out in a few weeks. He was commissioned to create other posters while in Helena.

Commissions That Made History

The Historical Society commissioned a poster commemorating 125 years as a state. A while later he created a poster advertising the Governor’s Cup Marathon Relay. After moving back to Billings, Jerry has focused his efforts on painting in his favorite medium, oil.

After joining the Montana Painters Alliance, he has spent many hours outdoors painting the various seasons in the state. Recently, he decided to market his own work, which makes it more affordable.

A Creative Partnership Begins

Jackie Inman is also a Montana native who was born in Butte. She spent many years teaching school in Helena, Red Lodge, and later in Billings. This is the time when she started being interested in the creative process in art by helping Jerry as his go-to critique.

Discovering the Art of Fiber

After retirement she started to explore various mediums and finally found her love for fiber art. The various colors of yarn, along with the textures, are what has her excited for the next project. These pieces are original and presented much like a framed painting. It takes many days to design and complete one of her works. Jerry is her go-to critic as well.
